The main source for mined Amber has been the Kaliningrad Minesite in Russia, on the Baltic Sea. The Amber minesite closed early in 2002 , flooding the main site... but fortunately reopened again (whew!) Now, however, they are producing about 20 % of the original, 'overexcavation" .This has precipated an "AMBER EMERGENCY" in the Jewelry world. making somewhat of a shortage,...resulting in delays and some cuts are unavailable. Over the centuries, & in particular since 1992, the demand for raw Amber has been absolutely awesome.
